Educated in the Pasadena schools, graduate of Pasadena HS in 1927, Pasadena Junior College in 1930 and USC in 1933 where he was Sigma Phi Delta and received a BSc in civil engineering. During WWll he was in the 974th Field Artillery Battalion, 40th Field Artillery Regiment in France from 1941-1945. He was with the Xll Corps battalion in France, Luxembourg, Germany,Ireland, England, Wales, and Austria and was the Commander of the Service Battery. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal and WWll Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with 1 Silver Star, the American Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy.

After the war, he was an Associate Bridge Engineer for the CA Division of Highways. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a member of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, the USAR, and a member of the Vestry at St. James' Episcopal Church, South Pasadena, CA. He was a fellow of the Huntington Library and is listed in Who's Who in CA.
