Karen J. Greatens, 69, Green Bay, died Thursday morning, May 13, 2010, after a lengthy illness. She was born April 4, 1941 in Marinette to the late Clarence and Roselyn (Gaetzke) Schoenfeld. She attended Peshtigo High School, class of 1959, and graduated with an Accounting degree from N.W.T.C. Karen married the late Earl Greatens on January 15, 1970 in Green Bay. She and Earl were owners of Fleet City Service Station in Green Bay for 25 years. Most recently, she was employed at Bellin Psychiatric as a Billing Specialist. Karen was a very generous person, donating to many organizations. Her compassion for people led her to be involved with mission organizations that sponsor children from the third world countries. She is survived by her children: Troy Greatens and Christopher (Alison) Greatens, all of Green Bay; one brother, Bob (Barbara) Schoenfeld, Boca Grande, FL; two sisters, Betty LeBreck, Bay City, MI and Susan Springstead, Madison; four very special friends: Jane Garrigan, Peshtigo; Dottie Jandrin, Green Bay; Jane Severinski, Chicago, IL; and Dana Caron, Green Bay; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Celebration of Life Service 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ted Tromble officiating. Burial in Allouez Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to Karen's family at www.prokowall.com. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund is being established. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Francisco Soto for all his efforts in giving Karen the extended time we enjoyed and teaching us all the meaning of compassion. Also a heartfelt thank you goes out to Dr. Soto's assistant, Laura, for all her efforts and care as well. Troy and Chris would like to thank everyone at the Bellin Psychiatric Center for all their cooperation, thoughts and prayers throughout Karen's illness. Also, special thank you to all of the great staff at St. Nicholas Hospital who treated Karen with the utmost respect and care; Dr. Mark Bettag for all his efforts. Troy would like to give special thanks to everyone at Mike Marek Trucking who always made it possible for him to tend to his mother's needs, and for their continued friendship.
