Lebanon, Feb 7.-Edmund C. Beale, 78, of 49 Hanover street, died at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Hanover, yesterday morning.
Mr. Beale came here two years ago from Holyoke, Mass., where he had been chief electrical engineer for the Crocker McElwan Paper Co., for many years. He had been a resident of Holyoke for 35 years. He retired some years ago.
Mr. Beale was born in East Hampton, Mass., and had been in poor health for a long time. He was taken to the hospital last Wednesday for an operation.
His wife, Mrs. Mary E. Beals, is in the Alice Peck Day hospital here. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dela Penna of Palmer, Mass., six sons, Erwin, Harold and Leroy of Lebanon, Therron J. of Fort Devens, Raymond of Northampton, Mass., and George of Holyoke; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Note from Muriel: Before moving to Lebanon the family lived on what is now known as Route 4A near the town line of Canaan and Enfield, NH. They were living there in 1920 when they went down to Holyoke and brought back the children of Raymond whose wife, Mary Ruth Shea Beals, had died of TB June 1 1920 They raised the children plus two granddaughters, Margaret and Lorine Masse.
