Doris Grace Atkins, 90, of Loveland died March 17, 2010, at her son's home. She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Secaucus, NJ, to John C. Ludwigsen and Florence J. Schubert Ludwigsen.

She married James W. Atkins on June 30, 1940 in Weehawken, NJ. Doris was a school cafeteria manager for 15 years in New Jersey and in the R2-J School District in Colorado for three years after moving to Loveland in 1975 from Butler, New Jersey. She retired in 1978 only to start a day-care center in her home for infants and preschool children. She was known there as "Grandma Pat" by the dozens of children she cared for over a ten year period.
She enjoyed traveling, baking, and crocheting baby layettes as gifts for family members, friends and acquaintances of the family. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for 35 years.

Doris is survived by her sister, Ruth Phillips of Fresno, CA; son James J. Atkins of Loveland; daughters: Patricia (Tom) Spitznas of Lake Stockholm, NJ, Judy Atkins of Lakewood, NJ, Betty (Larry) Wassmer of Loveland, Linda Atkins of Homosassa, FL, Peggy (Eugene) Behnke of Highland Lakes, NJ, and Regina (Scott) Blitstein of Park Forest, IL; 12 grandchildren: Patty Henderson, David Wassmer, Michael Wassmer, Cindie Wassmer, Jim Behnke, Jennifer Jacoby, Brendan Byrne, Nancy Richardson, Tommy Spitznas, Ed Spitznas, Janet Shockley, Elizabeth LePore and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, James W. Atkins, her brother John Ludwigsen and her grandson Larry J. Wassmer preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S. Hwy 287, Fort Collins, CO. Recitation of the Rosary, followed by Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Francisco J. Garcia and Rev. Felicien Mbala officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
