Absent from the body, present with the Lord on March 23, 2008 age 93 years of Camden, NJ; Haddon Heights, NJ; then Barrington, NJ.
Beloved husband of the late Bertha Mae Schill (nee Mayhew), for over 70 years. He was the devoted father of William N., Jr. (Martha) of Barrington, NJ; David W. (Lynne) of Moorestown, NJ; Donald C. (Rita) of Audubon, NJ. He was the beloved grandfather of Karen, Kristen, Emilie, Robert, Michael, Beatrice, Daisy, Pamela, Etta, Allison, Vaughn, and Nathaniel. Also, beloved great grandfather of ten great grandchildren.
Mr. Schill, born in Camden, NJ in 1915, attended Camden County Vocational School, worked at the Budd Company in Phila. in the 1930s then the Phila. Naval Shipyard prior to and during WWII. He helped to build the Battleship New Jersey among many other warships. He became a self employed Photo Journalist at the end of WWII working in that vocation for the remainder of his life. His photographic work is world renown. A sample of his credits include having the most cover photographs on Boating Magazine.
Mr. Schill was a strong advocate for the Boy Scouts of America program. He was a Scout Master and Merit Badge Counselor. He is the holder of the Silver Beaver, one of Scouting's highest awards. He was the director of the Haddon Kiwanis Club. He also helped start the Camden County Red Cross Blood Drive program. He was very active in the Camden County Junior Chamber of Commerce as well as Comet Fleet Captain at the Avalon Yacht Club in the late 1950s. He contributed his photographic talents for many years in generating the Avalon Yacht Club year book.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Haddon Heights Baptist Church, 3rd & Station Ave., Haddon Heights, NJ 08035.
A viewing and memorial service will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 at the DuBois Funeral Home, 700 White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ followed by interment at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
