The Sparta community was sad Sunday when the news circulated that J,M, Morgan,one of their old and highly respected citizens had passed away. He had resided there for some time and had lived a life of truth and neighborly kindness to such a marked degree that it is said eveyrone had confidence in him and loved him.

He was born in St, Clair County, Ala. on December 24, 1856. At the age of 16 years he professed religion and joined the Missionary Baptist church, He was married to Mary Jane Pyle on the 23rd day of Oct.,1879: and to this union was born 9 children, 3 girls and 6 boys of whom all are living except one boy, little Earl T. The surviving ones are the wife, Mrs. J.M. Morgan, Mrs J.A. Crass of Electra, Texas; D.O. Morgan, Sparta community; Mrs J.J. Hensley, Mexia, Texas J.W. Morgan, Norfolk, Va.; C.O. Morgan, Childress, Texas; C.E. Morgan, Sparta community, Mrs. A.O. Stegall, Tyler, Texas; R.D. Morgan, Sparta community. A brother J.H. Morgan of Killeen, and other brothers and sisters their where abouts are not known. A cousin, R.M. Martin, of Moody, Texas, together with other relatives and many friends.

The funeral services was conducted Monday afternoon by Rev, J.D. Sims of Killeen at the Liberty Hill Cemetery near Sparta, where the remains were laid to rest.
