Rev. Msgr. Joseph Charles Barnes was born on March 25, 1933, in Fresno, California, and passed to eternal life on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 14 days.

Msgr. Barnes completed seminary at Pontifical College Josephinum, in Worthington, Ohio. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1958, at Pontifical College Josephinum. From 1958 to 1962 he assisted at Holy Family Parish in Visalia, CA. Then, from 1962 to 1969 he served as administrator and then first Pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, in Goshen. From 1969 to 1971 he was pastor at St. Paul in Tranquillity then on to Our Lady of Lourdes in Corcoran from 1971 to 1978.

Over the next ten years he was pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Hanford and then pastored at St. Joseph in Mariposa from 1988-1993. His last assignment was at St. Malachy in Tehachapi from where he retired in 2004.

1990 - Personnel Board
1992 - Dean and Consultor to Merced Deanery
1994-1998 - Personnel Board.

Msgr. Barnes loved and cherished all his many friends. He served God, the Church and his fellow man. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation was held at St. John's Cathedral, on Thursday, May 13, 2010 followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John's Cathedral, on Friday, May 14, 2010. Interment followed at St. Peter's Cemetery.
