Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1949 to 1953), he played at the right-halfback and defensive-back positions in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. Born Frank Richard Ziegler, he attended College Park High School (Georgia) and played collegiate football at Georgia Tech (his studies were interrupted while he served with the US Navy during World War II). Selected by Philadelphia during the 3rd round of the 1949 NFL Draft, he appeared in 57 career regular season games. During his rookie year Ziegler experienced a championship season while sharing playing time with Steve Van Buren and Joe Muha, as Philadelphia was en route to capturing the 1949 NFL Title. His most accomplished year was in 1950, when he rushed for a career-high 733 yards and finished in second-place among the league leaders behind Cleveland's Marion Motley. Ziegler concluded his football career in 1953 after compiling 1,926 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns. He served as vice president of Ziegler Tools, a company which his brother founded.
