Lola Lea was the daughter of Alonzo Floyd Lea of Kentucky and Caroline Hawes Combs of Missouri, pioneer Lake County, California ranchers. She began life in a household that included two freed black slaves who chose to migrate with the family from Missouri. The oldest of four children, her siblings were: Clarence "Floyd" Lea, Mary Christine Lea Zittleman, and Marshall C. Lea. Lola wed Roy Hixson 01 Apr 1911, who appears to have been taken to the Lord by pneumonia, possibly in the Spanish Influenza epidemic shortly after World War One.
She was remarried to Ernest McPherson June 3, 1922 in Ukiah, California. They were wed for over 25 years at the time of his early death in 1947. During the World War Two years, she operated the family gas station, still standing in 2013, at the intersection of Highways 101 and 128, on the northern edge of Cloverdale, California. She was also the niece of U.S. Congressman Clarence F. Lea and wife Daisy, Sonoma County, whom she periodically cared for in their later years.

She lived the remaining years in Cloverdale, working, and enjoying her three children, and six grandchildren. She was active in the Eastern Star and other charitable work throughout her life. She passed away from a hemorrhagic stroke in Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Santa Rosa, California at 72 years of age.

Descendents of Lola are also descendents of Doctor Thomas Hinde who took an active part in the American Revolutionary War serving as Surgeon General with Patrick Henry's 1st Virginia Militia in various campaigns and battles.

Some sources give a middle name of Mae, but an early childhood photo has been located with Marie.

Roy and Lola were married in Sonoma, CA.
