William Mosier enlisted on July 29, 1861 into Company I of the 19th Indiana Infantry which became famous as part of the "Iron Brigade" that fought during the Civil War. He was wounded by gunshot in the left shoulder at Brawner Farm. He continued to serve and Mustered Out in July of 1864. He enlisted again on February 14, 1865 and served with Company B of the 149th Indiana Infantry and served until his discharge on May 30, 1865.
