Otto V. Dinkel, 73, 1010 S. Newton St., longtime Sioux City fireman and landscape artist, died Thursday morning at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
After retiring on April 15, 1946, from a 23-year career with the Sioux City fire department, Mr. Dinkel operated his own landscape and nursery service and Dinkel's Wood Yard.
Mr. Dinkel was born November 9, 1898 at Pinckney, Michigan, and came to Sioux City at the age of 18. He married Lena Winter here on December 24, 1919. She died July 24, 1966.
He was a member of Woodmen of the World, the Sioux City Fireman's Association, and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn A. and Robert L, both of Sioux City, two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Lois) Choquette and Mrs. Lester (Betty) Johnson, both of Sioux City, a brother, Eugene of Howell, Michigan, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.
