Gallant Anderson Sexton went by the nickname of "Mann" or simply his initials "G.A." most of his adult life. His family knew him as Pappy.

He was born to Lucille Frances "Fannie" Crawhorn the 29th day of March 1885 in Edmonton, Metcalfe County, Kentucky. She was 17 yrs old at that time. His father's true identity has been a mystery that was much discussed after his passing in 1949. The nickname was said to represent at least a hint at the actual surname of his biological father (Mann or even Mansfield).

His mother, Fannie, had two boys prior to her marriage at age 27 to her first known husband, Thomas Daniel Sexton in Metcalfe County, Kentucky on the 28th day of 1895. Her other son prior to marrying Tom was Samuel Jake Sexton, born when Lucy was 24 yrs old. Recently, a great grandson and partial namesake, another Anderson Sexton, noticed the single line response to the question on Anderson Sexton's marriage license that has sparked a new line of thinking as to their paternal link. The license was acquired to marry Ruby Alma Miller in 1903. It list 'John Sexton' as the father to Anderson. The answer to the mother question is 'Lucy Sexton', Fannie's shortened given name.

John Willis Sexton was the father of Thomas Daniel Sexton. Tom would have been too young to be her mate under normal circumstances. The date of John W. Sexton's death is unknown but all indications are that it was prior to 1900. This brings more weight to the permission note from Lucy/Fannie which mentions that she is the only living parent to Anderson so he can marry at age 17 on the 20th August 1903 in Edmonton, Kentucky.

Anderson married Ruby and they lived in several locations in the Central Kentucky caveland. Together they had ten children. Their second child, Bob Sexton lived a tad over four months in 1907, while their last born, Dewey Lester Sexton lived a mere two days in February of 1931.

The couple maintained a strong marriage for almost 46 years until Pappy passed in June of 1949.

Pappy responded to all census reports that he was general farm labor, but his true calling was that of a carpenter, builder of tobacco barns and the like. He passed due to an accident that occurred while he working on his own barn during a renovation.

Ruby became May-me as he became Pappy thanks to the four girls and three boys who ended up bringing 18 grandchildren into the world. A handful of those little ones didn't make it very far though.

Mayme lived 17 years without her husband, passing in February of 1967.

The couple are buried in Houk Cemetery just minutes from their last farm together. Seven of their ten children are buried there as well.

I will hopefully edit this again shortly.
