Mattie Ann Clay is believed to be the daughter of Royal Clay, Jr. and Mary Nancy Broughton Clay. She married William Joseph Scott abt. 1875 in Alabama. They migrated to Texas about 1878-1879 with William Joseph's parents and siblings.

Mattie gave birth to two children: Mallisia Margaret and Luvienna Fidella Scott. Mallisia was born in Alabama and Luvienna was born in Texas.
