Nathaniel Charles Claiborne was born at "Claybrook" February 15, 1822, in Franklin County, Virginia, and died 1889 in Webster County, Missouri. Married Mildred Kyle Morris June 13, 1849. Nathaniel was a student at Washington College, 1837-38 and a member of the House of Delegates from Franklin County, Virginia 1848-50. As a member of the Know Nothing party he ran for Congress but was defeated. In 1856 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and served in the state legislature. He later became a lawyer in St. Louis where he settled in 1861.

(1) John Herbert Latrobe Claiborne, b. April 20, 1850, d. March 15, 1882. He was killed by a train.
(2) Virginia Claiborne, b. September 5, 1852, Franklin County, Virginia, d. May 8, 1920, St. Louis, Missouri. Married Robert McCormick Adams, October 21, 1874.
(3) Nathalie Claiborne, b. December 6, 1858, Kansas City, Missouri, d. July 31, 1931, Lanexa, Kansas. Married Robert Greene in 1877 and John W. Buchanan in 1883.
