Jerry J. Faimon, 89, of Ord died on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord, with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 6, at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Faimon was born on Sept. 18, 1921, at Burwell to Joseph and Marie (Miksik) Faimon.

He married Bessie Absalon on Sept. 9, 1972, in Las Vegas. She died on March 10, 2007.

Survivors of the immediate family include a sister-in-law, Adelene Absalon of Falls Church, Va.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Jerry attended rural school in Garfield County and received his Ord High School diploma through Operation Recognition, a program honoring veterans who were in the service and unable to finish high school when they returned.

Jerry farmed with his dad east of Burwell and also worked for Elyria Township. He entered the United States infantry in March 1945, joined the 82nd Air Force Engineering Squad and served in the Philippines until July 1946. After the service, Jerry went back to farming. He farmed until 1969, when he and his parents sold the farm and moved to Ord.

He and Bessie made their home at Ord. Jerry worked for Valley County and the Ord Police Department. He then went to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads for 20 years and retired in 1985.

Jerry continued to live in Ord and had recently made his home at the Valley View Living Center.

Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ord VFW and American Legion, Ord Elks Lodge and ZCBJ Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Potrzeba; and a twin sister, who died at birth.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
