Age 83, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebr. City, NE.
Earl was born on March 10, 1927 in Atchison County, MO; the son of Carl B. and Elna (Breedlove) Lloyd. He attended school in Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1944. He then entered the United States Army on June 6, 1945 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on January 28, 1947. He had attained the rank of Sergeant.
Earl was united in marriage to Barbara Smith on August 8, 1952 in Nebraska City. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. He was a carrier for 12 of those years and a clerk for the other 22 years. He was a member of the United Trinity Church in Hamburg and the Eagles. He had served on the Hamburg School Board and was a Volunteer Firefighter for 35 years.
One of his greatest loves was fishing and going to Rush Lake every summer. For nearly 60 years Earl and his family would spend summer time at Rush Lake.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Lloyd of Hamburg, IA; children Barney Lloyd; Nancy Bieri and husband David and Steve Lloyd and wife Becky all of Hamburg, IA; 6 grandchildren: Alisha Ettleman & husband Bill; Kelly Ferryman & husband David; Josh Catlett & wife Jamie; Tanner Lloyd; Lacey Wurtele & husband Jason; Dani Gamber & husband Steve; and 7 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Layne, Libby, Seth, Trevor, Grayden and Jade and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers: Carl W. Lloyd and Charles H. Lloyd.
Memorials Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA with Military Services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion.
