Augusta Emma Coons, age 84, of Kenmare, died Saturday at her home. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, August 7th at 19 a.m. in the Kenmare High School auditorium. Conducting the service will be Rollin Mader and Don Smith. Music will be provided by Joyce Naber and Arlis Quick. Casketbearers will be Mervin and Howard Gustafson, David and Herb Schwede, Marlin (Slim) Myers and Jim Lindquist. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery with Thompson-Larson Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
She was born on November 13, 1900 on the family farm south of Donnybrook, a daughter of Fredrick and Mary Schwede. She attended school until the eighth grade and then began working for the Rockeman family for some time. She later worked for the Albert family at Aurelia until 1923 when she began working for the William Coons family. After the death of his first wife, they were married at Stanley in 1924, and they lived and farmed in the Coulee area until his death on March 5, 1961. Shortly afterward, she moved into Kenmare and had lived there since that time.
She is survived by her sons, Donald of Kodiak, Alaska, and William of Donnybrook; two grandchildren, Troy and Therese Coons; one great-grandson, Daniel Coons; brothers, Fritz and Evalt, both of Donnybrook; sisters, Mrs. Mae Gustavson and Mrs. Albert (Mata) Johnson, both of Kenmare.
