Myrna Farley was the youngest of eight children born to Francis W. and Mary C. (Lass) Farley. During childhood, she attended the Rainy Vale country grade school, where her mother worked as a teacher. After graduating from Beresford High School in 1961, she spent a brief time living and working in Sioux Falls, SD. After marriage, she raised her two sons on a farm northeast of Hawarden, IA until moving to Beresford, SD in 1977. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, she managed the V. F. W. Legion Lounge in Beresford, and later worked as an adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance. From about 1987 to 1990, she cared for her mother, who suffered chronic health problems. In the early 1990's, she worked at Riverside Station for a time. Later, she worked to help elderly shut-ins up until shortly before Myrna's own health began to fail as a result of colon-rectal cancer. She died at home in the presence of her oldest son and a family friend, Tracy Erickson. She was buried quietly in a private ceremony the following Monday morning. Although she kept and continued to use her married name after her divorce in 1979, Myrna always preferred her maiden name and was buried under that name. She was survived by her two sons, Brian and Kevin, and her granddaughter, Alex.
