John A. Carter, Hampden twp., died at 12 o'clock, of a complication of diseases, aged 55 years and 9 months. The funeral was held at the Friends' church in Avon twp. at 2 p.m. Mr. Carter was born in Owen County, Ind., May 28, 1840. He was a veteran of the late war, serving four years, six months and eighteen days in Company E Fourth Iowa Infantry. In 1879, he was married to Mrs. M. J. Halsey, in Dallas County, Ia. He leaves a wife and eight children, four sons and four daughters. A sister, Mrs. J. R. Young of Neodesha, was with him at his death. He died triumphant in the living faith of his Saviour, and sorrounded by those nearest and dearest.
