Mrs. Fred A. Torrance passed away at her home in Au sable Forks, New York, Friday afternoon, February 10, 1928, following an illness of several weeks of pneumonia, having become an easy prey to the disease which finally claimed its toll due to her already impaired state of health.

Kathryn Finch Bissell (Torrance) was born at Jay, New York, June 24, 1879, the daughter of Silas and Isabelle Finch Bissell. She was united in marriage to Fred A. Torrance September 20th, 1906, going directly to Albany, New York, where Mr. Torrance was a law student and lived there three years. Following her husband's graduation they settled in Au Sable Forks and with the exception of two and one-half years spent at Jay, have lived there since.

Mrs. Torrance was of a quiet, retiring disposition. She was devotion itself to the highest ideals of Christian womanhood. As a daughter, a wife and mother she was loving, unselfish and faithful, giving her all to the home and its interests and through years of semi-invalidism she "carried on," forgetting herself that she might add to the comfort of her family.

Converted in early life, she joined the Baptist church at Jay, where her membership still remains.

The funeral was held from her home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 12, 1928, the service being conducted by Rev. E. S. Greenleaf, pastor of the Jay Baptist church, who spoke from the text, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; hence there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but to all them also that love His appearing." Rev. F. R. Cubit of the Methodist church of Au Sable Forks read two hymns, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," also two of Mrs. Torrance's favorite poems, "Crossing the Bar" and "Two Ships."

Mrs. Torrance left, besides her husband, three children, Robert, Isabelle and Ira, also her father, mother and one sister, Mrs. J. D. Smith of Jay, beside numerous other relatives.

The profusion of beautiful floral offerings, together with the large attendance at both the home and at Jay Central cemetery, where burial took place, gave evidence of the high esteem in which deceased was held. The bearers were Dr. J. D. Smith, Judson Page, Charles Finch, Frank Torrance, William S. Weston and William McDonough.
