Isabelle L. Torrance, 86, of Broad Street, Au Sable Forks, New York, died Friday, January 23, 1998, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, New York.

Ms. Torrance was born March 3, 1911, in Au Sable Forks, the daughter of Fred A. and Kathryn (Bissell) Torrance.

She worked in her father's office during the Depression. After attending Ballard's Business School in New York, she worked in the president's and comptroller's offices at St. Lawrence University; the president's office at Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga.; the dean's office at New Jersey College for Women, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.; the bursar's office at Emma Willard School in Troy; and Raymond C. Prime's Law Office in Lake Placid. She retired from Placid Memorial Hospital Sept. 1, 1976.

Ms. Torrance was a member of the Lebanon Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Au Sable Forks; the Kappa Delta Sorority, Sigma Nu Chapter; and the First Baptist Church of Jay.

She was survived by a brother, Robert Torrance of Au Sable Forks; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Ira Silas Torrance, died March 9, 1995.

Burial took place in the family plot in Central Cemetery, Jay, New York.
