He was born in Au Sable Forks, New York, January 9, 1913, the son of Fred A. and Kathryn (Bissell) Torrance.
He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army, as a staff sergeant with the 788th Division, seeing combat in North Africa and Italy. He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8958 of Au Sable Forks and a charter member of the Elks Club in Keeseville, New York, and owned and operated the Lima Club in Au Sable Forks for several years.
Survivors included his wife, Derna S. Torrance of Au Sable Forks; one daughter and son-in-law, Fredricka and Otis Collins of Au Sable Forks; two stepdaughters, Joan Kurz of Plattsburgh and Patricia Zimmerman of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Scott Collins and Amanda Collins of Au Sable Forks; one brother, Robert Torrance, of Au Sable Forks; one sister, Isabelle Torrance of Au Sable Forks; a special friend, Carol Sharland of Au Sable Forks; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation took place at Whispering Maples in Ellenburg Depot, New York. A memorial service was held with interment in the Central Cemetery in Jay, New York.
