Consuella ‘Connie' Fluhr Hurt
79; of West Point, Ky.
A celebration of life for Consuella "Connie" Fluhr Hurt, 79, of West Point, Ky., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, with burial to follow in Bethany Cemetery. She died peacefully at home with family, just before midnight, Wednesday, March 9, 2011.
Born to Albert and Isabelle Williams on Sept. 22, 1931, Connie was one of 13 children raised on a dairy farm in Valley Station, Ky. She retired from Fort Knox as a servant employee after 25 years and opened "Cards by Consuella," a card and gift shop in her historic West Point home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. She later closed her shop on the river to dedicate herself fulltime to her three grandchildren and her beloved town and second family, West Point. Connie's spare time was spent organizing the town's annual River Days Festival, as a volunteer in the school's reading program and town events, as a member of West Point Baptist Church, and traveling, with New York City, Connecticut, Florida, South Louisiana and Canada among her favorite destinations.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Terry and Cindy Graves, of Shively; daughter and son-in-law, Steve and Lisa (Hurt) Kozarovich, of Louisville; grandchildren, Matthew and Danielle Graves and Ava Kozarovich; brothers, Richard and Paul Fluhr; sisters, Clara Jupin, Ruby Schneider, Patsy Anderson and Mary Crawford; and 40 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Carl Hurt; brothers, Albert, Paul, John, George and Joe Fluhr; and sister, Eva Marshall.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
