Raymond was the fifth of eight children born to Carl & Mary Hexamer Evelsizer on Aug 9, 1920, in Congerville, Illinois, about 20 miles NW of Bloomington, IL. The family moved to Gilman, Illinois in 1924 where Ray graduated from the Gilman High School with honors in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorene Johnson on May 28, 1940 in Gilman. They lived there for about a year and welcomed their first son, Dennis, during this time.

The three of them moved to Morton, Illinois, where Ray started working for Caterpillar Tractor Co in Peoria as a Tool and Die Maker. Their second son, Darwin, was born in 1943 and in August of 1944 Ray was drafted into the United States Army. He served with the famed 9th Infantry Division on a heavy mortar squad during the Allied drive across France and Germany. He served with the Occupation Forces for several months, returned to the US and mustered out of the Service at Camp Grant Separation Center, near Chicago. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Sharp Shooter Medal with rifle bar, Army Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal/Europe and 2 Overseas Service Bars.

He returned to Morton, where he took a job as a City Policeman for about 2 years before returning to work at Caterpillar Tractor Company. He retired from Caterpillar's Mossville Research Center in 1977 and he and his wife Lorene moved to North Fort Myers, Florida in 1979 where he enjoyed boating, fishing, shelling, traveling and just relaxing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Lorene of North Fort Myers, Florida, sons Dennis (Elsie) Evelsizer of Forrest, IL and Darwin (Linda) Evelsizer of Mascoutah, IL as well as his sisters Lorene (John) Koets, Erma (Albert) Medendorp, Wilma (Ken) Thornton, Elsie (Marvin) Meier and his brother Kenneth (Phyllis) Evelsizer.
