In addition to his large family of eleven children, they took an infant boy, George Swisher and reared him to manhood. He was one of the twin boys whose mother died when they were born. They also reared a colored boy, Finn Darte, from very small to manhood. He married and lived in the Davy Goodman house, just across the creek and worked for the Mellott's until they discontinued farming.
He was also a Justice of the Peace in Fulton County. He was a consistent member of the German Baptist faith.
