Born Feb. 7, 1921, in Pontiac, the son of John R. and Velma P. (Beals) Watkins, Junior was a very special person who was always happy and made those around him happy. He and his father did lawn work for many years together. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, DeKalb. He loved his nieces, nephews and extended family and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
He is survived by his brother, Dean Watkins of Newton; his brother-in-law, David E. Crowley of Ashton; many nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and -nephews, and many great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Velma Watkins; his sister, Bette Mae Crowley on Feb. 22, 2011; two brothers, Duane Watkins Sr. and Ralph Watkins; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Watkins, Mary Watkins and Shirley Watkins; a nephew, Duane Watkins Jr.; and a great-niece, Michelle Rose Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Glick, First Church of the Nazarene, DeKalb, officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at West Lawn Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Anderson Funeral Home.
