He was a twin of 0309 0206 - Dayton O. Mellott, Sr.
The family had gone to OHIO because their father did not want to serve in the Civil War. Rowe and his twin brother Dayton were born in OHIO and named for two towns, Rochester and Dayton, that they lived between.
He was a farmer and operated a general store at the Big Cove Tannery property from the early 1900's to about 1920 when the store burned to the ground. An advertisement read, "Rowe Mellott, dealer in General Merchandise and Manufacturer and Dealer in 'all kinds of lumber' - car lumber a specialty."
This same property also had the remains of a large building that had only the masonry walls still standing in the 1950's and these remains were said to be of the old "Tannery" and wagon factory for which Big Cove Tannery was named.
