U.S. Congressman. Educated at the Ransom's Military Academy New Jersey, he moved to New York and was a trustee of the village of Rondout (1859-64). He also was the president of Rondout (1852, 1867-69), supervisor of Kingston, New York, in 1872 and served as the first Mayor of Rondout (1872-85). In 1885, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth Congress, serving until 1887. Not a candidate for reelection, he was general manager of the Newark Lime & Cement Manufacturing Company and president of the Kingston Water Company, until his death.
