John William "Bill" Guess, 87, retired owner of Bill Guess Painting Company passed away early Friday morning, March 11, 2011. There will be a graveside funeral service for Bill this afternoon (Sunday, March 13) at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Guess was born August 13, 1923 to Mr. George Durrett Guess and Anna Mae Kennedy Guess. His parents proceeded him in death as well as three brothers, George, Prince and Jack. Bill is survived by five other siblings, Kenneth, Jerry, Richard and twin sisters, Anne and Jean. Bill was a World War II veteran, joining the United States Marine Corps just six days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war he married Helen Brashier Guess and they were happily married for 62 years before Helen passed away in 2007. Mr. Guess leaves four children, Nita Armour, Susan Guess, Penny Marcum, and Bill Guess. Papa also leaves six grandchildren, Nolen Cleaves, Mark Rapp, April Reed, Kathleen Walker, Heather Guess and Hannah Guess and six great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to the donor's charity of choice. Good-bye to another hero of the "greatest generation" ever. We will miss you.
