Car runs into ditch, driver dies

A 50-year-old Ewing Township woman died early yesterday after leaving a state office party at the Princeton Country Club and driving her car into a drainage ditch.

The body of Margaret Goldenbaum Hose, of 3 Aquetong Lane was found in the ditch, according to a spokesman for the Mercer County medical examiner's office.

The spokesman said that Mrs. Hose appeared to have struck her head against the car's windshield when it wen into the ditch along a gold course service road. She apparently climbed out in the ditch, he said. Her cause of death was given as a brain concussion and exposure.

An informed source at the club said that Mrs. Hose, who worked in the personnel office of the New Jersey Civil Service Department, aparently made a wrong turn when she left a department Christmas party at club. Instead of turning left, which would have taken her out to Route 1, she turned right down the service road.

According to the source, Mrs. Hose apparently tried to make a U-turn at the end of the road and went over the three-foot embankment.

A workman at the club discovered the wrecked car and Mrs. Hose's body at about 7:30 a.m. and called the West Windsor Township police. She was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Francis Medical center.

The police refused to provide any information about the accident.

Mrs. Hose, widow of the late Henry J. Hose, is survived by a daughter, Miss Margaret M. Hose, and a son, Henry J. Hose, Jr., both at home; her mother, Mrs. Catherine Russell Goldenbaum of Trenton; and several aunts and uncles.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Drive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass, and the Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. There will be no calling hours Tuesday night.

Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
