Funeral services for Alvin J. Aarhus were held at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault on Aug. 31, with the Rev. Duane C. Hoven, pastor of the church, officiating. Mrs. Robert Mentz sang "Beautiful Saviour" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. Gene Severson, the church organist. Pallbearers were Laverne Goedtel, C. W. Nelson, Martin Paschke, John Shaffer, Win Ulevig and Axel Thompson all of Faribault. Interment was made in the family lot in the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Faribault.

Alvin John Aarhus, the son of Christ and Elizabeth Jerdee Aarhus, was born at his parents farm home near Borup, on Feb. 6, 1904. He attended the schools in that vicinity and grew to young manhood there. For several years following that, he was engaged in farming at the family home. On Dec. 23, 1929 he was united in marriage to Juliette Hagen at the Zion Lutheran Church at Lake Mills, Iowa. They first made their home in Mason City, Iowa where Mr. Aarhus was engaged in construction work. In 1931 he began employment with the Great Lakes Pipe Line for 34 years on the construction of the line through Iowa and Minnesota. Following that, he served for a number of years as an engineer at the Albert Lea sub-station. In 1945 he was transferred to Faribault where he served for many years as an engineer at the Faribault sub-station. In later years he had served as supervisor of the Faribault sub-station. Mr. Aarhus retired from that work in 1966, following which he had served for several years as a school bus driver for the Faribault public school system. Since his retirement, he and Mrs. Aarhus have continued to make their home in Faribault.
Mr. Aarhus passed away unexpectedly at the Colorado General Hospital at Denver, Colo., on Aug. 27, while undergoing treatment for emphysema. He is survived by his widow, Juliette; by two daughters, Mrs. John J. Kirby (Judy) and Mrs. Donald W. Johnson (Darlene) both of Maplewood; by a son Donley Aarhus of Denver, Colo.; by two grandchildren , Justin Pittman, presently serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Jennie Pittman of Maplewood; by two sisters, Mrs. Ella Roll of Ulen, MInn., and Mrs. Mable Flemming of Ogden, Utah; by a number of nieces, nephews and by other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, by three brothers, Nels, Elmer and Bernard and by a sister, Mrs. Clara Dekko.
Mr. Aarhus was a member of the First English Lutheran Church since his coming to Faribault.
