He was born March 26, 1930, in Rome, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Air Force and specialized in the area of photography. He enjoyed a long career as a photographer at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., from which he retired.
He married Jane Douglas Rogers on March 28, 1953, in Washington, D.C. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1984.
He is survived by sisters, Anne LaFlam and Susan Nevers of Loveland; sons, Douglas Ward Townsend of Alexandria, Va., and Robert Bruce Townsend III of Loveland; and five grandsons and one great-grandson. He is also preceded in death by daughter Evelyn "Evie" Louise Spaulding of Loveland.
Robert enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard as well as singing. He also enjoyed drawing, gardening, reading and watching "Jeopardy."
