Mamie Shelley

Mrs. Mamie Shelley, age 94, of Whitney died Wdnesday, August 14, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 16, at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney, Reverend Eddie Booth and Larry Shelley officiating, burial in the Bethelhem Cemetery near Whitney.

Mrs. Shelley was born December 28, 1896 near Whitney, the daughter of Sam Houston and Mary Bell (Reed) Ivy. She was a homemaker and lived in the Whitney area all her life. She was a member of the Whitney Missionary Baptist Church. She married Mr. James Perry (Ped) Shelley April 18, 1919 and he died August 3, 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, James, a daughter, Oma Dell Young and a grandson, James Arnold.

She is survived by three sons, Darrel Shelley and Perry Shelley both of Whitney and W.A. Shelley of Lufkin; two daughters, Sdeline (Sis) Bush and Bettye Ryno, both of Whitney; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Known as Mama Shelley to all the grandkids and great grandkids
