Whitney Messenger Thursday October 3, 1940

William Carlton Wood passed away at Stiener Valley September 30, 1940, after an extended illness.
He was born May 7, 1882 in Gravitte, Arkansas, and came to Texas in 1905, locating near Whitney. In 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Burchs, and they had been living in the Whitney and Fort Graham communities most of their married life. At the age of 20, he professed faith in Christ, uniting with the Baptist Church, and at the time of his decease he was a member of the church at Gilliland, Texas.
Surviving are his widow, his mother, Mrs. Jane Wood, Bridgeport, Texas, and the following children: William, Ivy, Lloyd, and Walter Lee Wood; Mrs. Gladys Benson of Whitney; Marvin of Gilliland; W.C. of Fort Clark; Mrs. Ruby Stansberry, Covington. Three brothers also survive: Lee of DeLeon; Sam of Stiener Valley and Clessie Wood of Bridgeport.
He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Donvie DeArman, Mrs. Alda Brown of Whitney; Mrs. Molly Bromley, Gilliland and Mrs. Edna Jenkins, Stiener Valley. There are eleven grandchildren.
Funeral services, in charge of Marshal and Marshall, were held at Fort Graham Tuesday, October 1, 1940, at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Roberts pastor of the Baptist Church of Kopperl, assisted by Rev. F. E. Weller of Whitney.
Interment was in the Cemetery at Fort Graham.
