Donald E. Cartwright, 85, of Beach Park, formerly of Zion, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion.

Don was born January 29, 1923, in New Auburn, WI, and was a charter member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. He married Patricia Tallman on June 3, 1944, in Waukegan, and after her passing he was wed to Betty Kolesar on May 14, 1993, at Our Lady of Humility Church. Don was retired from Johns-Manville in Waukegan. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Don was also a charter member of the Winthrop Harbor VFW and was active with the Zion Senior Citizens. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Don enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and golfing.

Survivors include three children, Barbara (Vince) Varsek of Beach Park, Thomas (Tina) Cartwright of Zion, and Carol Jill (Ken) Turman of Virginia Beach, VA; four stepchildren, Nancy (Dennis) Archer and Marian (Ray) Finkenstadt, both of Texas, Ann (Skip) Mason of Waukegan, and Michael (Diane) Kolesar, of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Ksziezak of Mundelein, IL, and Betty Wallsch of Bloomer, WI; many, many, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ed Borowy and Carolyn Roediger.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Cartwright, and second wife, Betty Kolesar-Cartwright; his parents, Leo and Beryl Cartwright; and 12 brothers and sisters.
