Funeral services for Helen Gay Howell Garrison will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Caldwell North Stake Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 23644 Old Highway 30 near the Middleton Exit of 1-84. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Middleton Cemetery following the services. Helen was born June 20, 1920 in Clifton, Idaho, to Orvid and Alta (Rainey) Howell. Her mother passed away in 1926 and her father married Vera Thompson Cole. Helen married, Harlen D. Garrison on Nov. 3, 1939 in Nampa. They made the Nampa/Caldwell area their home during most of their life. Recently she has been living with her daughter in Gresham, Ore. Mrs. Garrison was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many various capacities. She is remembered for her unselfish service to others. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Helen worked at various nursing jobs in hospitals, and nursing homes. She became a licensed practical nurse at age 50, an accomplishment that pleased her greatly. She loved to write poetry as well as road shows and plays. Helen is survived by her mother, Vera Howell; husband, Harlan; sons, Monte, Gary Wayne, Bruce, Dennis, and Val Garrison; daughter, Gaye Gunderson; sisters, Mildred Bolen, Clarice Anderson, Jerry Perry, and Dianna Winklekotter; brothers, Stan Cole, Blair Cole, and Ormond Howell; 37 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
