Kenneth Elwood Blackwell Sr., 76, died Friday April 18.
He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky to the late Benjamin and Edith L. Shearer Blackwell.
Mr. Blackwell served with the U.S. Navy until 1948 and with the U.S. Army until his retirement in 1991 as a CW-4.
He had also been an employee of AT&T Telephone Co. and Kentucky State Government. He was a member of Thornhill Baptist Church, American Legion #7, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Capital City Shine Club.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth E. (Angie) Blackwell Jr. and Jeffrey A. (Melissa) Blackwell, both of Frankfort, one daughter, Deborah Stephens of Lexington, his fiancé, Brenda Starr, two sisters, Mrs. Beulah (Clarence) Gunther and Regina Robinson, both of Frankfort, and seven grandchildren.
Service will be Tuesday 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home-Versailles Road, Frankfort with Reverend Billy Perkins officiating, burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers are Andrew Stephens, Michael Mahoney, Benny Robinson, Tony Brown, Jack Sapp and Robert Baker. Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren, Jacob Blackwell, Taylor Blackwell, Sarah Blackwell, Rebecca Blackwell, and Rachel Blackwell.
Visitation will be Monday 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be donated in Mr. Blackwell's honor to the Suzanne Elam Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Thornhill Baptist Church, 1142 Holmes St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
