Son of Enoch "Big Enoch" Abell and his second wife Mary Ellen Wade.

Married to Matilda Chanley on September 5, 1878 in Dubois County, Indiana.

Willard and Matilda were the parents of 6 children of which only 2 reach adulthood.
Four of their infants are buried in Taylor Cemetery in Dubois County, Indiana.

Father of Nellie who married Willmer C. Towers and Katie who married Daniel Comstock, Charles Arthur Sprinkle (died in Illinois) and then William H. Kellams.

Both Willard and Matilda are buried next to their daughter Nellie and her husband Willmer Towers.

WILLARD ABELL IS TAKEN BY DEATH AT AGE OF 97

Willard Abell, who was possibly Dubois county's oldest resident, died at 10:15 last night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Katie Kellems of Mentor a the age of 97. He had been confined to bed by illness for the past two months, but before that time was unusually active for a man of his great age.

Mr. Abell, a retired farmer of the Birdseye community, was born on a farm between Bretzville and Jasper on February 29, 1858, the son of Enoch and Mary Wade Abell.

His wife, the former Matilda Chanley, died in 1932.

Besides the daughter, he is survived by four grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

The body is at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg where it will remain until 4 PM Saturday, when it will be taken to the home of the daughter, Mrs. Katie Kellems, at Mentor.

Services will be conducted in the Christian Church in Birdseye at 2 PM Sunday with Rev. William Kellems officiating. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
