Married Mary Margaret Gordon Adams on Feb 17 1897

THOMAS, at age 12, came to Louisa Co, IA with his parents in 1852. At age 21,he began farming on his own account. In 1894 he removed to Crawfordsville in adjacent Washington Co, where he erected a building and, as sole owner,
established the Crawfordsville 1st Savings Bank. In 1908, he withdrew from active connection with the bank and reorganized it as a stock company. While he carried on farming, he engaged extensively in feeding and shipping livestock
In 1909, he owned 160 acres of well improved land in Louisa Co, 200 acres in Crawford Twp of Washington Co, together with 296 acres in Arkansas. He also owned town property in Crawfordsville, IA and Chicago, IL. In 1898 or 1899 there was an attempted bank robbery. Someone heard suspicious sounds and went to the Rickey home to rouse him and some other neighbors. They all armed themselves and went to the bank, but the robber heard them coming and slipped away. This bank eventually closed in the 1920's.
