Marion was born in Hannibal, MO, one of ten children of Friend and Elizabeth Hascall, Marion joined the Union Army on 02 Sep 1864 during the Civil War. He was one of about 35 survivors of the Battle of Centralia on 27 Sep 1864. He was in the 39th Missouri Infantry, Company H. Approximately 135 men were killed in the battle. He was mustered out of the Army on 19 Jul 1865.

After the war, Marion met and married his first wife Mary Lavina Schultz in 1867. Marion was a farmer in Ralls County, Missouri near Hannibal. Marion and Vina had 10 children before she died in 1892.

Marion moved to the Oklahoma Territory in Beaver County in Bluegrass Township near Ivanhoe around 1905 to be near his daughter Lula and her family.

Marion met and married Rachel Piersol Golding in November, 1910. They moved to Follett, Texas and lived there until his death in 1929 at age 87.
