Jesse Barr, 52, Dies of Accident Injuries; First Victim Since October 1935

Mankato's traffic safety record unmarred by a fatality since October 19, 1935, was shattered this morning by the death of Jesse Barr, 52, of Oshawa township, St. Peter, Route 1, who was injured in an automobile accident at Woodland avenue and West Front street the night of Saturday, June 11.

Barr suffered a skull fracture, crushed chest and other serious injuries. He made a strong bid for life, but succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital this morning.

Walking across West Front street after procuring a can of soup from a store at the intersection, Barr was struck by a car driven by Clair Hultengren, 16, South Bend, Mankato Route 1. Hultengren's car rolled over and crashed into a light post after striking Barr. No inquest will be held, Dr. G. A. Dahl, Blue Earth county coroner, said this morning.

He is survived by this wife, two sons, Ray of Duluth and Leonard of Namkato and two daughter, Mrs. James Quineham, St. Paul, and Mrs. Paul Larson, Lake Crystal, his mother in St. Louis, Mo., three grandchildren and two brothers, Robert Barr, Grand Meadow, Minn. and Henry Barr, Miami, Fla.
