Betty Nygaard, age 68, died April 15, 2004 at her home in Big Timber.

Betty Jane Boe Nygaard was born June 21, 1935 to the late Christopher and Jose (Raisland) Boe north of Springdale, Montana on the family homestead where she grew up. She attended Sioux Crossing School, Big Timber Grade Elementary, and Sweet Grass County High School.

Betty married Arthur L. Nygaard on December 16, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2002.

She was first a wife and mother. Betty was a waitress, babysat at home, was a teacher's assistant in a private kindergarten and also third grade, and enjoyed being an Avon sales representative, retiring after 15 years.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, dancing and playing cards. She was an active member of the Timber Trippers Square Dance Club and the Sons of Norway.

Betty was preceded in death by brothers James Boe, George Boe, Raymond Boe, and Walter Boe, and one sister, Edna Boe.

She is survived by her daughters: Elaine (Marc) Self of Salem, OR and Christy (Ken) Robinson of Billings; son Dan (Cheryl) Nygaard of Bellevue, WA; sisters Sigrid (John) Preston of Richland, WA, Cora (LaMarr) Baldwin of Missoula, and Hilda (Les) Fredericks of Big Timber; uncle Ben (Edna) Raisland of Big Timber; and grandchildren: Rachelle (David) Zackus, Shalisa, Donita and Paul Maberry, Evan and Ben Nygaard, Melissa (Mike) Hepworth; great grandchildren Ashton and Cedara Zackus and Hailee Hepworth; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty will be greatly missed, especially at the family gatherings and holidays which she always enjoyed.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Holmlund officiating. Graveside committal followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darrell Carlyle, Alan Boe, George Boe, Olen Raisland, Glen Raisland, Ken Fredericks, and Sivert Boe. Honorary pallbearers were Stan Carlyle, Alvin Raisland and Mark Preston.

Memorial may be made to the Big Timber Lutheran Church or the Pioneer Medical Center.
