Geraldine Ruth (Afman) Cave, 76, of Chattanooga, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on March 13 following a battle with cancer.

Gerry was born in Plainwell, Mich., on Aug. 5, 1934, to Martin and Martha Afman.

She was educated in Plainwell City Schools graduating from Plainwell High School in 1952. She received her bachelor's degree at Bob Jones University and a master's degree from Western Michigan University.

Gerry's passion and purpose in life was teaching. Her career spanned more than 40 years. She taught business and secretarial science classes at the middle school, high school and college level. She retired from teaching at age 70 following 10 years at Tennessee Temple University.

Her love for the Bible and strong faith also provided her with many opportunities to use her teaching skills in leading various Bible studies and Sunday school classes throughout her life. At the time of her death, Gerry was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Gerry's compassionate nature and sense of humor allowed her to develop lasting relationships and she will be missed by friends of all ages.

Gerry is survived by her children and their families: Brad, Susan, Abegail, Elizabeth, Margaret and Emily Cave of Cheyenne; and Stephanie, Bill, Elisa and Adrienne Moore of Cary, N.C.; her sister, Margaret (Earl) Bostwick of Augusta, Mich.; brother, Bob (Hilda) Afman of Marcellus, Mich.; and her brother-in-law Royce (Goldie) Cosgrove of Plainwell, Mich.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Fred Afman, Bill Afman, Elizabeth Gren-Bailey and Marion Cosgrove.

Gerry's life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell followed by a luncheon for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Chattanooga Rescue Mission, 1512 S. Holtzclaw Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
