Mrs. Mattie Lou Carlile, age 101, of 1345 Redmond Road, Rome, GA, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Beverly Health Care of Rome.

Mrs. Carlile was born in Live Oak, Florida on August 14, 1901, the daughter of the late Orrin Oscar Carter and Annie Eliza Herring Carter.

She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the past 17 years, moving here from Florida. Mrs. Carlile was a member of the First Baptist Church of Titusville, FL and attended the Garden Lakes Baptist Church in Rome. She was a member of the Titusville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Pythian Sisters. For many years, Mrs. Carlile was a baby sitter. She loved to crochet, work in her garden, was a Gospel Music fan, enjoyed playing the piano and liked to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Mrs. Carlile was preceded in death by her husband, David Nathaniel Carlile, Sr., in 1962, to whom she was married in 1928. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Betty Geraldine "Gerry" Pulliam, three brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Carlile is survived by one daughter, Minnie Mae Stauffer of Titusville, two sons, David Nathaniel Carlile, Jr., of Mims, FL, and James Thaddeus Carlile of Wytheville, VA; one son-in-law, Thomas H. Pulliam, Sr., of Rome; and one sister, Grace Currin, of Arlington Heights, IL. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carlile will be held this (Monday) afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Carlile will be carried to Titusville where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the North Brevard Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Johnson and Rev. John DeVoss officiating. Interment will follow in the LaGrange Cemetery.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at Garden Lakes Baptist Church this afternoon by 1:30 and include Thomas H. Pulliam, Jr., Glenn Daniel Pulliam, Thomas Michael Pulliam, David Harold Pulliam, Herschel Bailey and Tom Ellison.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Garden Lakes Baptist Church, 2200 Redmond Circle, Rome, Ga, 30165.
