Maureen Patricia 'Paddy' O'Sullivan was born in Dublin Ireland in 1918 and began her education at St Louis Convent in Dublin. At seven years of age she went to live with an aunt in Belgium. Here Maureen the Convent School in Coutrain - then the Athenee Royal in Ostend.
At the beginning of the Second World War Maureen was working as a nurse at Highgate Hospital in London. She later joined the WAAF and was soon promoted to Section Officer.
Her fluency in French soon brought her to the attention of the French Section of the Special Operations Executive. Maureen joined with enthusiasm and after training was parachuted into Limoges on the 23rd March 1944. It was a bad weather, but Maureen insisted on parachuting out of the plane and she had a bad landing. She later joked to everybody..the only thing that saved me was the 2 million francs I had strapped to my back.
Maureen carried out very successful work with the Fireman network and Paddy (Maureen was always referred to as..Paddy in S.O.E.) returned to England on the 5th October 1944 and was awarded the M.B.E. the story was reported in the tabloids and Paddy's cover was blown and she was then sent to serve in Calcutta. She was a Liason Officer to the French Forces working there.
After the war Maureen married..Eric Alvey a former S.O.E. trainer and they lived in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, England and they had two sons..John and Robin.
