Funeral services were conducted at the Tolgen Lutheran church at Saum Wednesday at 2 p.m. for Sam Nelson, resident of Battle township, near Kelliher, who died Nov. 22nd. Max Cheney officiated and burial was in the Tolgen cemetery under the direction of the Kolden-Snustad Funeral Home.

Mr. Nelson was born in Sweden Dec. 3, 1887. His marriage to Helga Bergstrom took place in Miles City, Montana in 1919 where they lived for one year. They then moved to New York for 12 years where Mr. Nelson was a contractor and builder and in 1933 they moved to Battle township where he farmed. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Town Board for several years, and belonged to the Kelliher American Legion Post.

Surviving are his widow; a brother in Sweden; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven brothers and a sister.

1920 Census: Sam P Nelson (32) born about 1888 in Sweden, and Helga Nelson (31) born about 1889 in Sweden were living on South Cottage Grove Avenue in Miles Ward 3, Custer, Montana. Sam's occupation - Carpenter in the building industry.

1930 Census: Sven Nelson (42) and Helga Nelson (41) were living in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, where Sam was a carpenter/building contractor.

1940 Census: Sven Nelson (52) and Helga Nelson (51) were living in Battle, Beltrami, Minnesota.
