J.D. BARNES

Mr. J. D. Barnes, age 86 of Whitney died Thursday, December 22, 1988 in Lake Whitney Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 24, at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel, Rev. Eddie Booth and Rev. Kenneth Stevens officiated. Burial was in Whitney Memorial Park.

Mr. Barnes was born July 10, 1902 at Snowball, Arkansas. the son of Corbin Elijah and Mattie Jane Tipton Barnes. He married Novella Shelley November 25, 1928. He was the oldest of ten children and had lived in the Whitney area the past 60 years. He was preceded in death by two brothers; John (Burn-em) and Woodrow (Woodie) Barnes; also by a sister Emma Drewery.

He was a Baptist, a retired Rancher and was a member of the Whitney Odd Fellows Lodge #176, and was a Charter member of the Whitney Rebecca Lodge #300, and was a member of the Hill County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Novella Barnes of Whitney; one son, W.D. and his wife Joyce Barnes of Pasadena, Tx.,; four brothers, Parker Barnes of Witt Springs, Arkansas, C.W. Barnes of Bridge City, Tx., Isaac Barnes of Arlington,Tx., Virgil Barnes of Whitney, Tx.; three sisters, Ranna Kirk and Arbie Pautsky of Wichita Falls, Tx, Anna Beseda of Hillsboro, Tx. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
