SCHWARTZ, Joseph F.
Schwartz Joseph F. Schwartz, age 83, of Bloomington, passed away on April 23, 2004. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Mary (nee Shires) Schwartz; five brothers, Peter, Harry, John, Theodore and Henry; and one infant son. Survived by his wife, Beatrice (nee Dahlen) of 60 years; sons, Terry, Norman (Eileen), Ron (Linda), John (Victoria), Mike (Lori), Brian (Alida), Ray (Cheryl); daughters, Joanne Schwartz and Carol (Charles) Peterson; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, William of Grand Rapids, MN. Joe was born May 16, 1920 and grew up in Bovey and Coleraine, MN. He graduated from Greenway H.S. in 1938, attended Itasca Jr. College in 1941 and graduated from Bemidji State College in 1942. He went on to become a pilot with the U.S.A.A.F. "Flying Tigers" in World War II, flying a P40 and P51 in the China-Burma-India Theater. Joe retired with the rank of Major from the U.S.A.F. in 1964. He worked 17 years for the Bloomington Schools as a Maintenance Engineer and was a loyal member of Ft. Snelling Officer's Club. Our "Hero" was always sought for his advice, sense of humor, and willingness to help. He loved to fly and enjoyed making repairs to household items and automobiles. He also loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Visitation Tues., April 27 5-8 PM at Gill Brothers Funeral Home on 99th St and Lyndale Ave in Bloomington. Funeral Service Wed., April 28 11 AM with visitation one hour prior at St. Bonaventure Catholic Community Church, 90th St and 10th Ave, Bloomington, MN. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
