Son of Ole Steffensen (b.1805) and Dorthe Embretsdatter Bjernaeseie (b.1807. Married Anna Jonasdatter on April 3, 1857 in Jevnaker, Norway and they emigrated to the USA in 1866, along with many other family members according to the ships log. Steffen, Anna and family first settled in McGregor County, Iowa for 3 years, then they moved to Clay County, South Dakota where at they lived the balance of their lives.
