VIRGINIA BEACH - Rudolph Welford Ayers, 85, of the 3100 block of Lynnhaven Drive, passed away Sept. 20, 2010 in his home. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Andrew and Cleo Ayers and the widow of Mary Louise Ayers. He was a plumber and a member of Plumber & Steam Fitters Local Union No. 110 for 60 years.

Early Bio- Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Shop 11-03449, Apprentice Shipfitter, Appointed 11/7/1941. S/O, Andre W. Ayers, Fayton Ave., Norfolk, VA. Attended Granby High School.

He is survived by his daughter, Cleo D'Aurio and husband Edward; six sons, Connie Ayers and wife Kathy, Sammy Ayers, Christopher Ayers, David Ayers and wife Joy, Lindy Ayers and wife Linda and Ray Thomas Ayers; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2pm at Bayside Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Pullen officiating. The burial with military honors will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
